Lata Mangeshkar’s Father Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar was well known Marathi theatre actor, Natya sangeet musician, and vocalist. Lata Mangeshkar got her first chance to perform in public at the age of nine with her father in some ‘Theatre Show’.
After the Death of Lata’s father, Mageshkar’s family friend Vinayak Damodar Karnataki (Owner of Navyug Chitrapat movie company) helped her to get started in a career. In 1942 he gave a small role to her in the Marathi film ‘Pahili Mangalaa Gaur (1942)’ in which she sang her First Marathi Song ‘Natali Chaitraachi Navalaai‘.
Lata Mangeshkar’s First Hindi Song was ‘Mata Ek Sapoot Ki Duniya Badal De Tu‘ for the Marathi film Gajaabhaau (1943).
In 1945 Lata Didi moved to Mumbai. She started taking lessons in Classical Music from Ustad Aman Ali Khan of Bhindibazaar Gharana.
She started getting singing opportunities in Marathi and Hindi Languages, however, her First Major Hit Song was ‘Aayega Aanewaala‘ from the movie Mahal (1949). After this, she never looked back and sang thousands of songs in various regional languages of India. She has the ‘Guinness World Record‘ for singing over 30,000 songs between 1948 to 1987.
